Pirates: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Dead Men Tell No Tales Or do they?

I am an avid, life-long Disney fan. Growing up in San Jose, my family ventured down to Disneyland not often enough! The old time Disneyland with its coupons per ride, Tomorrowland (which is quite different these days) and the Old Faithful ride, which is long since gone, are great memories.

The ride I still start and end the day with is the Pirates of the Caribbean, and even that ride has changed drastically in the last couple of years. What happens just before the boat goes down to the lower level? The talking skull says: Dead men tell no tales.

This coming Sunday is the beginning of what many around the world call Holy Week. That is, when Jesus came to Jerusalem (many call it Palm Sunday), tore up the temple…did a variety of other activities during the week and then was arrest, tortured, tried, and finally put to death.

Jesus is dead before the sun goes down on Friday.

Day 1 goes by. Nothing.

Day 2? No action.

Day 3: He gets up out of the grave and gets on with the rest of forever.

In many respects I find an un-resurrected Jesus easier to accept. Easter makes him dangerous. Because of Easter I have to listen to his extravagant claims and can no longer pick and choose from his sayings. Moreover, Easter means he must be loose out there somewhere.

This former dead man is not telling tales—He is writing history. He is actively, passionately, integrally buried in the affairs of you and me. And He is wanting desperately for you to become a vibrant family member…and then, to also be  involved with Him in His obsession: Kingdom expansion.

Yes, I am looking forward to the new Pirates of the Caribbean on Stranger Tides  coming out on my son’s birthday in May. (Actually, I’m planning on watching the first three, the three days prior to the release!)

But I am also looking forward to Easter (April 24) as we do every Sunday…celebrate the power, love and the friendship Jesus offers all of us — because He was crucified and now is risen.
